What is iota?
Training architecture
IOTA expands to Incentivised Orchestrated Training Architecture. It develops a way to train machine learning models across independently operated computing devices. The earlier Subnet 9 design had miners train complete models in competition with one another. IOTA instead coordinates participants so they can contribute to a shared training process. It combines data parallelism and pipeline parallelism to distribute the work.
Participation
The network is designed to accommodate machines with different capabilities and participants that join or leave during training. Its software must coordinate those resources without assuming that every operator is trusted. Macrocosmos provides tools for miners, validators and users seeking distributed training capacity. Its training interface offers managed and self-directed workflows. The contribution being rewarded is useful training work rather than storage of the token itself.
Subnet economics
Bittensor gives each subnet its own alpha asset, separate from TAO. SN9 identifies the asset for Subnet 9 and is unrelated to the IOTA ledger's native coin. Staking through Bittensor's subnet pools exchanges TAO for the corresponding alpha exposure. Unstaking reverses that exchange at the pool's prevailing terms rather than a fixed one-to-one rate. Subnet emissions support miners, validators, stakers and the subnet owner under Bittensor's allocation rules. Token economics and the machine learning coordination software therefore serve different roles within the network.
