What is Kin?
Overview
Kin facilitates permissionless transactions across independent platforms and applications. The currency supports micropayment ecosystems, including Code Inc.'s payment platform that allows creators to monetize content with transaction amounts as low as $0.05. The network operates as a fully decentralized system managed by an autonomous community of economically aligned stakeholders rather than a centralized entity.
How it works
Kin operates on the Solana blockchain, which it migrated to in 2020. Solana provides near-instant transactions with minimal fees measured in fractions of a penny, while maintaining zero net carbon impact. The architecture enables efficient scaling for mainstream adoption.
Token and supply
Kin has a fixed maximum supply of approximately 2.94 trillion tokens with no inflation mechanism. The total supply is approximately 2.65 trillion tokens. Since the supply cannot be increased, new tokens are not issued through emission.
Team and history
Kin was created in 2017 by Ted Livingston's Kik Inc. and initially launched on Ethereum before migrating to Solana in 2020. In 2020, Kin reached a regulatory settlement with the U.S. SEC establishing it was not required to register as a security.
