What is Liquity?
Origins and issuance
Liquity began operating on Ethereum in April 2021. Its first borrowing system issues LUSD against deposited ETH. LQTY has a maximum supply of one hundred million tokens. Distribution included rewards for Stability Pool participation and frontend services. Those incentives are separate from borrowing the protocol’s stablecoins.
Staking across versions
Staking LQTY can earn borrowing and redemption fees from Liquity V1. Those rewards are paid in LUSD and ETH. Liquity V2 extends participation with votes over Protocol Incentivized Liquidity. This mechanism assigns 25% of borrower interest to approved external initiatives. Voting weight combines the staked amount with its age. Weekly epochs organise votes and initiative distributions. The voting process includes support and veto votes. External initiatives may provide additional incentives to voters. V2 staking continues to pass through the relevant V1 rewards. There is no mandatory staking lock, although withdrawal removes accumulated voting weight. Incentive voting does not provide a general power to rewrite Liquity’s immutable borrowing contracts.
