What is Loopring?
Protocol architecture
Loopring developed an Ethereum Layer 2 for decentralized exchanges. Its design combined off-chain order matching with on-chain settlement. Trades were grouped into batches. Zero-knowledge proofs verified the resulting state changes on Ethereum. Ethereum also served as the data-availability layer.
Token and operating status
LRC uses a separate Ethereum ERC-20 contract. It is distinct from ETH, the gas asset of the settlement network. The protocol also supported token transfers and NFT operations. Its historical exchange relied on a relayer for order matching. The current official announcement states that Loopring has shut down. Earlier descriptions of active exchange and wallet services therefore describe its former operating model.
