What is MANTRA?
Project development
The project began with the OM token on Ethereum in August 2020. MANTRA Chain mainnet launched on October 10, 2024. Its purpose is to support asset tokenisation through a permissionless base network with compliance-aware applications. The chain uses delegated proof of stake. Holders delegate the native coin to validators that secure the ledger.
Chain and applications
MANTRA Chain combines Cosmos SDK modules with an EVM execution environment. Its Abunnati upgrade enabled deployment of Solidity smart contracts. The native coin pays network transaction fees and participates in staking and governance. Tokenised assets built on the chain can have separate issuer and compliance rules. MANTRA is also distinct from mantraUSD, the ecosystem's Treasury-backed stablecoin.
Redenomination and issuance
At block thirteen million in March 2026, the native OM coin was renamed MANTRA. The change split each native OM into four MANTRA coins. Balances and allocations increased proportionally, so the split did not increase a holder's share of the supply. The published maximum supply became ten billion MANTRA. Network issuance and allocation of rewards remain subject to onchain governance. The earlier Ethereum OM migration window closed in January 2026, so legacy ERC-20 balances are separate from the current native coin.
