What is MetaMask USD?
Issuance and reserves
mUSD targets one US dollar per token. Its backing consists of short-term US Treasury bills held through regulated custody. The issuer provides dollar-backed reserve assets corresponding to tokens in circulation. The token initially launched on Ethereum and Linea. It can be held in self-custodial MetaMask accounts.
Wallet integration
MetaMask integrates mUSD into its fiat purchase and token-swap interfaces. Supported onramps allow users to obtain it through bank and payment-card routes. Existing crypto balances can also be swapped into mUSD. The token supplies a dollar-denominated asset for transfers and DeFi applications. MetaMask Card supports spending through its eligible integrations.
Holding and earning
mUSD remains separate from an investment in MetaMask or its parent company. The wallet's Money Account offers an additional route to earning on mUSD. That earning functionality depends on the account's underlying product. It does not turn the token into a fixed-rate savings instrument. Blockchain transfers remain subject to the rules of the network carrying them.
