What is Metaplex?
Protocol components
Metaplex provides infrastructure for NFTs and fungible token metadata. Its Core program supports digital-asset creation and execution. Bubblegum supplies compressed-asset infrastructure. Genesis provides token-launch mechanisms. Developers integrate these programs into wallets, marketplaces and applications. The programs charge their own protocol fees, separate from Solana transaction costs.
Governance and revenue
MPLX holders participate in the Metaplex DAO. Governance covers protocol development, utility and treasury spending. The Foundation supports research and ecosystem development. Its current fee policy allocates half of protocol revenue to MPLX purchases. Purchased tokens are contributed to the DAO treasury. The remaining half supports the Foundation’s ecosystem work. Treasury accumulation is separate from permanently burning tokens. The DAO can fund approved grants and other ecosystem initiatives. Community proposals follow the applicable voting and execution procedures.
