What is Metis?
Rollup execution
Andromeda runs Ethereum-compatible smart contracts. Users submit signed transactions through the network's RPC infrastructure. A sequencing layer orders those transactions into blocks. The system coordinates sequencing with a proof-of-stake layer. Transaction batches are submitted through the rollup infrastructure. Multiparty computation manages the signing keys used by sequencer nodes.
Token and sequencer participation
METIS pays application transaction gas on Andromeda. Sequencer operators lock tokens as collateral. Smart contracts track their participation and withdrawal conditions. Stake-weighted selection determines which sequencer takes the active role. Rotation distributes block-production responsibility among eligible nodes. Operators can claim rewards, increase their lockup or request withdrawal under the network's rules. The ecosystem also develops Hyperion for parallel execution and additional performance features. Its documented testnet uses tMETIS, which is separate from production METIS balances.
