What is Monad?
Execution architecture
Monad executes Ethereum-compatible smart contracts using its own blockchain infrastructure. Parallel execution processes independent transaction work concurrently. Transaction outcomes still follow the chain's required ordering. The design separates consensus from execution to overlap those stages. MonadBFT provides the network's Byzantine fault-tolerant consensus. MonadDB is a purpose-built state database for the execution workload. Category Labs develops the open-source client software.
Security and supply
Validators and delegators stake MON to secure the proof-of-stake network. MON also pays for transfers and contract execution. Transaction pricing includes a base component and a priority component. The base component is burned. Monad began with an initial allocation of 100 billion MON. Block rewards add new MON, so that figure is an initial supply rather than an immutable maximum. The launch design targeted issuance of roughly 2 billion MON per year. Net supply growth depends on both reward issuance and fee burning. Allocations for the team and early investors enter circulation under separate vesting schedules.
