What is Non-Playable Coin?
Meme and launch
NPC takes its name and artwork from the non-playable character internet meme. The project launched in July 2023 as an open-source art experiment. Its supply is 8,050,126,520 NPC, based on the world population at launch. The original documentation identifies no formal team or founder. The token has no transfer tax. Its purpose centres on collecting and trading the meme across fungible and NFT markets.
Convertible token design
The fungible representation follows the ERC-20 standard. The NFT representation uses ERC-1155. A project application lets users convert between the two representations at a 1:1 ratio. This allows the same underlying asset to appear on a token exchange or an NFT marketplace. The NFT backing consists of the meme artwork rather than cash reserves or external collateral. The project also produced Non-Playable Customs, a separate ERC-721 collection on Base. That collection has a completed issuance of 155,443 custom profile pictures. A customizer assembles images from selectable traits.
