What is NONOS?
Overview
NONOS is an operating system designed with privacy embedded at the kernel level, implementing capability-based security where programs receive only explicitly granted permissions. The system runs all components—including device drivers, network stack, browser, and wallet—as isolated capsules outside the kernel, with no root account or administrator. Device shutdown leaves no logs, cache, browsing history, or device identity on the machine; network traffic routes through an onion mixnet with fresh encryption at each hop.
How it works
The microkernel's authorization component spans under 4,000 lines of Rust, formally verified through translation to Lean 4 and machine-checked theorem proving. All code execution requires cryptographic proof verified before loading; the system uses a proprietary transparent STARK prover over the Goldilocks field, requiring no trusted setup. Boot verification occurs through two independent signature schemes, one post-quantum, followed by kernel STARK proof validation.
Token and supply
NOX is an ERC-20 token deployed on Ethereum that serves as the ecosystem token for the NONOS project. It also powers NOX Shield, a private transfer protocol verified by a Solidity contract on Ethereum. Maximum supply is capped at 800 million tokens, with total supply approximately 795.8 million.
