What is PepeCoin?

Launch and migration

The original developers announced PepeCoin on March 8, 2016. Its first network distributed coins through mining with the X11 algorithm. The chain subsequently used proof of stake, ending proof-of-work issuance in late 2018. Historical blocks targeted a one-minute interval. In 2023, the project migrated to Ethereum as PEPECOIN. The migration bridge remained open for one year. The original team confirmed continuity between the earlier PEPE/MEME chain and the Ethereum token.

Applications and technology

PepeCoin's application ecosystem combines meme culture with digital collectibles and games. PepeOS introduced an operating-system-style web interface for these applications. Its development programme included messaging, NFT creation and social features. Kekspace provides the project's Web3 multiplayer world. The earlier Kekdaq collectible marketplace first launched in June 2017. Legacy wallet software also supported encrypted messaging and image timestamping. The current Ethereum token uses Ethereum's transaction infrastructure rather than the old chain's mining rules.
