What is Pepecoin?
Overview
Pepecoin is a layer 1 blockchain created to build an engaged community similar to early cryptocurrency projects. The network operates as a public blockchain with its own native asset and uses proof-of-work consensus. No premine, preallocation, or initial coin offering occurred at launch.
How it works
Pepecoin uses the scrypt hashing algorithm for proof-of-work mining. The network became merge-minable with other scrypt-based coins including Litecoin and Dogecoin starting at block 100 thousand, allowing miners to earn Pepecoin rewards alongside other scrypt coins simultaneously.
Token and supply
PEP is the native asset of the Pepecoin blockchain. Total supply is fixed at 104.8 billion tokens with no maximum supply cap specified. New tokens are issued through proof-of-work mining rewards.
