What is Quantum Resistant Ledger?
Origins and cryptography
Peter Waterland founded the project, and its mainnet opened on June 26, 2018. QRL uses XMSS for transaction signatures. This construction combines one-time signatures with Merkle trees. Its security model differs from the elliptic-curve signatures used by many earlier blockchains. Wallets must track used one-time signature indices to avoid signing twice with the same key.
Network and issuance
The production chain uses RandomX proof of work. Its target block interval is 60 seconds. Mining rewards follow an exponential decay schedule. The initial issuance was 65 million QRL, including 52 million for public distribution and 13 million in reserves. Another 40 million are scheduled for mining over approximately 200 years. The eventual supply limit is 105 million coins.
Asset and development
QRL pays transaction fees and transfers value between network accounts. Miners receive newly issued coins for block production. Foundation reserves and outstanding unmigrated balances are distinguished from public circulating supply. Zond is the separate development effort for Ethereum-compatible execution and proof of stake. Those features do not describe the current RandomX production chain.
