What is QuarkChain?
Original sharded chain
QuarkChain launched its original mainnet in April 2019. The architecture separates transaction shards from a root chain. Shards process activity in parallel. The root chain confirms blocks produced by those shards. Ethereum-compatible contracts run within the execution environment. Addresses include a shard key to identify their position in the network. QKC can be held and transferred across its shards.
Super World Computer
The project's newer documentation describes an Ethereum Layer 2 built using the OP Stack. It develops parallel execution and programmable storage as scalability features. Its mainnet documentation provides a native QKC migration bridge. A separate bridge supports other ERC-20 assets. An associated testnet has its own endpoints and faucet. The design also introduces non-transferable Soul Gas Tokens for subsidized transaction activity. These gas credits are intended to reduce the upfront cost of onboarding users. The original sharded chain and the newer Layer 2 have different infrastructure and transaction rules.
