What is Railgun?

Privacy system

RAILGUN uses zero-knowledge cryptography within smart contracts on existing EVM blockchains. Users can shield supported assets and interact through integrated wallets. Confidential balances use the system's private address model. Privacy does not require moving to a new standalone blockchain. The protocol supports private transfers and DeFi interactions within its supported environment. Independent developers provide wallets and application integrations. RAIL ownership is not required to use those privacy functions.

Security participation

RAIL holders can lock tokens to evaluate proposed code changes. Their participation helps determine which requests are executed by the protocol. One locked RAIL corresponds to one vote in the documented request process. Voting power can be delegated. Participating stakers receive allocations from the protocol's treasury and deductions. When votes are delegated, the allocation follows the receiving delegate. Approved changes execute through on-chain procedures.

Supply and fees

Ethereum RAIL is a fixed-supply ERC-20 with a maximum of 100 million tokens. Polygon and BNB Chain deployments have separate participation tokens. The Arbitrum deployment uses Ethereum RAIL's staking system. RAIL is not the token used to pay privacy-transaction or host-chain gas fees. The documented token economy has no RAIL buyback-and-burn mechanism.
