What is Request?
Payment requests
Request Network records payment obligations between counterparties. Applications can create invoices and monitor whether their associated transfers have been paid. Settlement moves supported assets directly between wallets. Stablecoins provide a common payment option within the ecosystem. Request Finance is one application built on the protocol rather than the protocol itself.
REQ economics
The original REQ supply was one billion tokens. All genesis allocations have vested, with no further issuance under the published model. Recording requests triggers a mechanism that burns REQ. Network usage therefore reduces the remaining token supply over time. The burn concerns protocol activity rather than a promised return to holders. REQ holders participate in decisions about the protocol and its foundation. Proposals cover the network's direction and stewardship. The genesis distribution included a public sale, early contributors, the team and advisors, and the foundation. The public sale took place in 2017. REQ's governance and burn roles remain separate from the asset used to settle an invoice.
