What is Rootstock Infrastructure Framework?
Network and infrastructure
RIF Labs developed the framework to provide reusable blockchain services. Its original design covers payments, naming and other application infrastructure. RIF operates as an ERC-20-compatible token on Rootstock. Rootstock supports EVM smart contracts and uses Bitcoin merge-mining. Network transaction fees are paid in RBTC. RIF has a separate role within applications and governance.
Supply and applications
RIF Labs created one billion tokens for the token generation event. Service providers can accept RIF for framework functionality. Applications also integrate it into DeFi positions. The RIF ecosystem includes USDRIF, a dollar-targeting asset collateralized by RIF. Those collateral positions depend on the value of the underlying token.
Collective governance
RootstockCollective uses RIF to coordinate support for builders. Staking RIF creates stRIF voting power. Participants vote on proposals and funding for projects building on Rootstock. Builders and their backers can receive rewards in RIF and RBTC. These rewards are tied to participation in the Collective's programs. Holding the unstaked token does not itself create a validator position on Rootstock.
