What is Shardus?
Ledger software
Shardus develops software for building distributed ledgers. Its design uses sharding to divide network work among nodes. The architecture aims to increase capacity as participating infrastructure grows. Networks using the software define their own coins and application rules. The Shardus token exists on Ethereum and Polygon. It is an ERC-20 asset rather than the native gas coin of every Shardus-based network.
Licensing model
ULT is distributed to people who contribute directly to development. The project states that it conducted no token presale or ICO. It also states that it does not sell its own tokens on exchanges to finance development. Public networks using the software satisfy the published licensing model through token distribution. At least one percent of their coin supply is allocated to Shardus token holders. The license specifies holder snapshots and a claim process. Distribution depends on an actual licensee network implementing those obligations. ULT consequently connects software contributions with licensing distributions from separate networks.
