What is Status?
Application technology
Status combines encrypted messaging with self-custodial digital-asset management. Accounts can communicate without registering a phone number or email address. Community members operate the peer-to-peer messaging infrastructure. The wallet supports token transfers, swaps and bridging through integrated services. Token-gated communities connect messaging access with crypto assets. A separate Keycard device provides contactless hardware-wallet functionality.
SNT participation
SNT is an ERC-20 token. Holders use it to curate entries in the Status Community Directory. They can also upvote proposed development priorities. Locking SNT supports the creation of a personalized ENS subdomain. The Status Network initiative introduces additional SNT participation through staking. Its reputation and governance asset is Karma, a separate non-transferable token. The network's published model links Karma to transaction throughput and community allocation of funding. SNT remains the transferable ecosystem asset.
