What is Steem?
Content and consensus
Steem records posts, comments, votes and token transfers onchain. Its blocks are produced at three-second intervals. Elected witnesses sign and validate those blocks. Accounts use stake-weighted voting to select witnesses. A reward pool distributes tokens to authors and content curators. Votes determine how eligible content shares that pool.
Account assets and resources
Users can convert liquid STEEM into STEEM Power through a power-up transaction. STEEM Power represents vested participation in the platform. Its accounting unit is VESTS. Resource Credits limit how much blockchain capacity an account can use. Accounts have separate posting, active and owner authorities for different operations. STEEM Power can also be delegated to another account for platform influence. Steem Backed Dollars are a separate asset within the system. Posting keys authorize content activity, while active keys authorize transfers and market orders.
