What is Data Network?
From Story to Data Network
Story announced its transition to Data Network on June 25, 2026. The foundation adopted the Data Foundation name, while the IP ticker became DATA. PIP Labs, legally Pen Technology Inc., remains the core development team. The project shifted its focus from broad intellectual-property licensing toward verified human data for AI. Kled supplies opt-in contributions through a marketplace where people authorize use of their material and receive payments.
Provenance and access
Data Network combines an EVM-compatible execution environment with the Cosmos SDK. Its consensus layer is based on CometBFT. DATA pays for transactions on the network. Trace registers content hashes, contributor consent and identity signals as verifiable receipts. Its public audit views let buyers inspect the provenance of an entire dataset. Confidential Data Rails uses threshold encryption and on-chain rules to control decryption. No single key holder possesses the complete decryption key.
Token participation
Holders can delegate DATA through the network's staking interface. Locked team, investor and insider tokens have a revised unlock date of February 13, 2028. That extension preserves the affected holders' existing allocations and vesting terms. The foundation's lockup mechanism enforces restrictions without transferring custody of their wallets.
