What is Synapse?
Transfer routes
Synapse's router selects between different mechanisms for moving supported assets. Its native routing contracts use minting and burning to manage cross-chain token representations. Circle's Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol provides a separate route for native USDC. That route burns USDC on the origin chain and mints it on the destination. Request-for-quote transfers use relayers competing to fulfill orders. A selected relayer supplies the destination assets before receiving the origin-chain funds.
Developer integration
Applications can integrate Synapse through its software development kit. REST APIs provide another way to obtain routing and transaction information. A bridge widget supplies an embeddable user interface. Synapse also offers liquidity pools and staking interfaces. SYN provides participation in protocol governance. The project's development plan places Synapse's features within a broader transition toward Cortex.
