What is Syscoin?
Overview
Syscoin combines Bitcoin's consensus mechanism with Ethereum-style smart contract functionality to serve decentralized applications across metaverse, IoT, and smart city use cases. The network operates as a modular stack comprising multiple chains: a UTXO chain, a Network Enhanced Virtual Machine (NEVM) chain for Ethereum-compatible contracts, and Rollux as a Layer 2 solution. Rollux is secured through merged mining with Bitcoin and incorporates Proof-of-Data Availability technology.
How it works
Syscoin uses SHA-256 hashing and Proof of Work consensus inherited from its Bitcoin origins. The platform supports Ethereum-compatible smart contracts via NEVM while maintaining a UTXO-based architecture on its Layer 1. Rollux operates as an OP Stack-based rollup secured by Bitcoin mining, positioning itself as a performant and scalable execution layer for decentralized applications.
