What is Tether?
Origin and use
Tether began in 2014 as Realcoin, founded by Brock Pierce, Reeve Collins and Craig Sellars. Its USDT token targets a value of one US dollar. USDT is used for exchange trading, payments and dollar-denominated settlement in DeFi.
Technology and supply
USDT operates on multiple networks, including Ethereum and TRON, using each chain's consensus. Tether manages issuance and redemption under its account terms and reports reserve backing. Supply has no fixed cap and changes with issuance and redemptions; network fees use the underlying chain's resources.
