What is Theta Network?

Origins and network purpose

Mitch Liu and Jieyi Long co-founded Theta Network. Its native blockchain launched on 15 March 2019. The ecosystem supplies infrastructure for media delivery, AI computing and rendering. Theta's blockchain records payments, application transactions and token transfers. Edge nodes supply computing and delivery resources to connected services.

Security and contracts

Theta uses a multilevel Byzantine fault-tolerant consensus design. Validator nodes propose and finalize blocks. Guardian nodes check and seal the resulting block history. THETA is staked to participate in these validator and guardian roles. The blockchain supports Ethereum-compatible smart contracts.

Token roles and supply

THETA's supply is fixed at one billion tokens. New THETA is not issued as an ongoing block subsidy. Participants who stake THETA can receive TFUEL rewards under the network's rules. TFUEL pays for contract execution and operational services. Theta Metachain connects the main chain with application-specific subchains. Those subchains can exchange supported assets through the system's interchain messaging infrastructure.
