What is Truebit Protocol?
Overview
Truebit allows smart contracts and blockchain applications to access trusted computational results from external resources without relying on cryptographic proofs of correctness. The platform addresses the Verifier's Dilemma—a security challenge that arises when blockchains attempt to verify large computational tasks. Use cases include Layer-2 settlements, DeFi bookkeeping, signature verification, and any smart contract requiring high computational complexity.
How it works
Truebit processes computation off-chain using external resources while leveraging a dispute resolution mechanism and microeconomy to ensure correctness. Smart contracts can submit tasks written in C, C++, or Rust without gas limits. The system uses WebAssembly architecture to read functions and data from Ethereum, smart contract code, or IPFS.
Token and supply
TRU is the protocol's native token. The total supply is approximately 3.33 trillion tokens, with no maximum cap specified.
Team and history
Truebit was founded by Jason Teutsch, a mathematician and computer scientist with a PhD in Mathematics and two Fulbright Fellowships. The whitepaper was co-authored with Christian Reitwiessner, creator of Ethereum's Solidity language. Research on the verification solution began in 2015.
