What is VeChain?
Origins and technology
VeChain began in 2015 under founder Sunny Lu. Its public VeChainThor blockchain launched in 2018. The network supports Ethereum-compatible contracts and applications for tokenization, payments and traceable records. VET carries value between accounts and supports governance participation. Its fixed supply is 86,712,634,466 coins.
Consensus and staking
The Hayabusa upgrade moved VeChainThor from Proof of Authority to delegated proof of stake in December 2025. StarGate provides the staking interface for VET holders. A staking position is represented by an NFT. Matured positions can delegate to validators and earn VTHO rewards. Unstaked VET no longer generates VTHO passively. Validator and delegator rewards follow the upgraded network's allocation rules.
Two-token economics
Applications consume VTHO for computation and transactions. VTHO issuance responds to network staking under the current economic model. The base component of transaction fees is burned. Priority fees compensate the validator processing the transaction. This separates VET's value and staking role from the asset spent on execution.
