What is Velo?
Network purpose
VELO launched in September 2020. Velo Labs develops financial applications for institutions, businesses and consumers. Its network combines local-currency payment rails with stablecoin settlement and liquidity routing. Orbit Plus provides consumer functions including crypto conversion, payment cards and bank off-ramps. Institutional products focus on foreign-exchange liquidity, treasury operations and settlement. Access to fiat services follows the requirements of the relevant licensed partners.
Credit and token architecture
The original Velo Protocol uses VELO as collateral for digital credit issued by trusted partners. A Digital Reserve System rebalances collateral and reserve pools to maintain the credit's value link. Redeeming the digital credit releases the corresponding collateral according to the protocol's calculation. VELO is available on Stellar and BNB Smart Chain. The current token framework states a total supply of 24 billion.
Ecosystem development
Velo identifies settlement, staking and governance as roles for its utility token. Its payment applications also use dollar-denominated assets such as USDV. Those stablecoin assets carry separate backing arrangements from VELO. The 2026 PayFi roadmap expands institutional netting, liquidity staking and treasury services. Deployment of these services follows the project's staged rollout rather than automatically applying every planned function to all token holders.
