What is Velvet?
Locking mechanism
Users lock VELVET to receive veVELVET. The permitted lock ranges from one week to two hundred weeks. Longer commitments produce a larger vote-escrowed balance. That balance declines linearly as the lock approaches expiry. Extending or restarting a lock can increase it. veVELVET is therefore a time-dependent representation of locked tokens.
Current utility
The live programme distributes VELVET from the launch allocation reserved for airdrops and staking rewards. Reward calculations use Gems, a measure combining stake and platform activity. Eligible users also receive trading fee discounts under the cashback tiers. The token is a designated trading pair for assets launched through Velvet. veVELVET provides access to the platform's AI copilot. Additional model access is part of the planned utility.
Governance and treasury
Onchain DAO voting remains in development. Current platform fees accrue to the treasury and finance operating and development costs. A distribution of those fees to stakers has not been finalised or scheduled. Separate token allocations support the team, backers, liquidity and ecosystem growth. The initial airdrop and staking reward reserve accounts for five percent of the allocation.
