What is Venus?
Lending markets
Venus developed from Compound-style money markets and Maker-style stablecoin minting. Suppliers deposit supported assets into lending markets and receive interest through their positions. Borrowers access other assets within limits determined by deposited collateral. Interest-bearing vTokens represent supplied assets. Governance-set supply caps limit exposure to individual markets. The protocol tracks borrowing capacity separately for each pool.
XVS and voting
XVS holders deposit tokens in the XVS Vault to participate in governance. Voting power becomes active after delegation to the holder or another delegate. Delegation leaves ownership of the stake with its depositor. Venus Improvement Proposals can change market settings, funding and protocol policy. Proposal voting uses a snapshot of delegated voting power.
Rewards and Prime
Eligible XVS stakes also contribute to Venus Prime qualification through a time-weighted leaderboard. Prime tokens are non-transferable and issued under governance-configured conditions. A July 2026 tokenomics update redirected the former protocol-revenue allocation for XVS Vault rewards to Venus Prime. Vault rewards now depend on governance-approved funding, including base allocations and treasury buybacks. Revenue allocation and reward speeds remain adjustable through subsequent proposals.
