What is Verge?
Origins and payments
Justin Valo, known as Sunerok, founded the project. Its launch involved no ICO or premine. Development is carried out through an open-source community. XVG is used for peer-to-peer transfers and merchant payments. The official wallet ecosystem includes desktop and mobile clients.
Mining design
Verge supports five Proof-of-Work algorithms. They are Scrypt, X17, Lyra2rev2, Myr-Groestl and Blake2s. Miners produce blocks and confirm transactions. The target block interval is thirty seconds. The multi-algorithm design allows different types of mining hardware to participate.
Supply schedule
The published issuance schedule totals about 16.52 billion XVG. Block subsidies decline through the schedule's successive stages. The scheduled subsidy reaches zero after block 7,200,000. Transaction fees continue to compensate miners once subsidies end. XVG issuance follows these block rules rather than a validator staking reward system.
Wallet privacy
Verge's wallet software integrates Tor to obscure network-level connection information. This feature concerns how users connect and broadcast activity. Core releases also include encrypted messaging support. Messaging and the blockchain's public transaction records are separate features, with different privacy properties.
