What is Verus?
Launch and consensus
Verus began in 2018. Development was led by Michael J Toutonghi. It had no ICO or premine. Coins enter circulation through mining and staking. Its Proof of Power consensus combines proof of work and proof of stake in equal proportions. CPU and mobile-device mining are supported.
Protocol features
VerusID provides identities controlled by their owners. Transactions can use transparent or shielded balances. Privacy features employ zk-SNARKs. Smart Transactions implement functions at the protocol level. Applications access these functions through the network's node APIs.
Network economy
VRSC pays transaction and identity-registration fees. It also funds launches of currencies and public blockchains. Public Blockchain as a Service allows parallel chains to use Verus features. The Verus Internet Protocol supports communication between those chains. Protocol fees accumulate in a pool that gradually distributes them to miners and stakers.
