What is Wanchain?
Overview
Wanchain aims to create a distributed financial infrastructure connecting public, private, and consortium blockchains to facilitate low-cost inter-ledger asset transfers. The platform enables institutions and individuals to operate services such as asset exchanges, loans, and settlements based on digital assets. It uses the Locked Account Generation Scheme with Shamir's Secret Sharing to secure funds across multiple parties, with key shares distributed among Storemen who validate transactions.
How it works
Wanchain operates as a Proof of Stake blockchain that supports smart contracts and privacy-protected token exchanges. The network uses multi-party computation to generate locked accounts, allowing transactions to proceed with a minimum threshold of key shares rather than requiring all participants online. Cross-chain transactions execute on the original chain, enabling seamless integration without requiring new transaction types or validators on external networks.
Token and supply
WAN is the native asset of the Wanchain blockchain with a maximum and total supply of 210 million tokens. The token was initially distributed as an ERC-20 token during an ICO and can now be exchanged for mainnet tokens or purchased directly. WAN functions as the network's utility token for transaction fees and network participation.
Team and history
Wanchain was founded by Jack Lu, who previously co-founded Factom and established Wanglu Tech. Dustin Byington serves as President and is a blockchain veteran who founded Bitcoin College in 2014 and co-founded Tendermint. The Wanchain Foundation operates as a non-profit organization with presence in Singapore and Austin, Texas.
