What is WAX?
Applications and accounts
WAX provides a smart contract environment for issuing and trading digital assets. Applications use blockchain accounts and resource limits. WAXP can be used to acquire NFTs and other assets within the ecosystem. Issued game tokens and NFT collections have their own application rules. Those assets are separate from the network's native coin.
Resource model
The network uses delegated proof of stake. Tokenholders vote for the block producers responsible for maintaining the chain. Staking WAXP allocates CPU and network resources to an account. These resources determine how much transaction activity that account can perform. The model differs from spending a gas payment for every individual operation. Staked tokens also support participation in producer voting.
Participation
Block producers validate transactions and run the network infrastructure. WAXP holders can receive staking-related rewards under the network's rules. Voting connects token stake with the selection of those producers. The token therefore combines an application payment role with access to blockchain resources. A game's own reward token does not automatically confer the same network rights.
