What is yearn.finance?

Vault architecture

Yearn automates the allocation of assets to yield-generating strategies. Depositors receive vault shares representing their position in the chosen vault. The V3 contracts use the ERC-4626 interface for deposits, withdrawals and share accounting. A vault can allocate its underlying asset across multiple strategies. Strategy reports update the accounting for realized gains and losses.

Issuance

The original distribution rewarded liquidity providers with 30,000 YFI. A later governance decision authorized another 6,666 tokens for contributors and the treasury. The documented total issued supply is consequently 36,666 YFI. The token contract includes a minting function whose control moved from Cronje to governance-controlled administration. This issuance history differs from an immutable 30,000-token ceiling.

Current governance staking

Yearn's current staking model uses stYFI and stYFIx in place of the older veYFI system. Staking YFI for stYFI retains direct governance participation. The stYFIx option delegates voting power for a more passive position. Unstaking releases the balance through a linear 14-day cooldown. Revenue rewards are claimed separately in yvUSDC vault tokens. stYFIx does not automatically compound those rewards.
