What is Flux?
Network and computing
Flux originated as a Zcash-derived blockchain in January 2018. Its ecosystem combines a blockchain with distributed cloud servers. FluxNodes supply computing and storage resources for application deployment. Operators run servers that satisfy the requirements of their node tier. The system includes Cumulus, Nimbus and Stratus tiers. Node participation requires FLUX collateral as well as qualifying hardware.
Current consensus and supply
Proof of Useful Work v2 replaced the former GPU-mining model. FluxNodes now perform block production and transaction validation. Block intervals were reduced from two minutes to thirty seconds. Mining pools are no longer part of this model. Rewards are distributed directly to participating node operators. The updated maximum supply is 560 million FLUX. The emission schedule applies a 10% annual reduction. This ceiling supersedes the older 440-million figure. FLUX also connects blockchain incentives with the ecosystem’s cloud deployment services.
