What is Zephyr Protocol?
Overview
Zephyr Protocol is a three-asset stablecoin protocol that combines privacy features with collateralized stablecoin issuance. ZEPH is the base asset, ZephUSD is the stablecoin, and ZephRSV is a reserve share token. The protocol enables users to mint private stablecoins while earning rewards on collateral deposits.
How it works
The protocol operates on a native Monero-based blockchain using Proof of Work consensus, inheriting privacy properties for all transactions and assets. Users deposit ZEPH to mint ZephUSD stablecoins and receive ZephRSV tokens representing claims on reserve equity. The value of ZephRSV adjusts based on the reserve ratio and fees collected from minting and redemption activities.
Peg and backing
ZephUSD maintains its peg through a minimum 400% over-collateralization requirement in ZEPH. The reserve accumulates fees from user actions, block rewards, and price deviations between spot and moving-average prices. A maximum reserve ratio of 800% prevents excess dilution of ZephRSV holders, while reserve providers benefit from leveraged exposure to ZEPH appreciation.
Team and history
Zephyr Protocol launched on 29 May 2023 as a grassroots community project without venture capital funding.
