What is ZetaChain?
Network
ZetaChain is a general-purpose Layer 1 built with Cosmos SDK and CometBFT. Its EVM environment supports smart contracts coordinating actions across connected networks. These applications can interact with EVM and non-EVM chains. The network also develops infrastructure for AI model routing and private application memory. Anuma is its consumer AI application. The blockchain remains the settlement and permissions layer.
ZETA utility
ZETA pays for execution on ZetaChain and supports cross-chain gas payments. Validators stake it to participate in consensus. Delegators can allocate tokens to validators. Rewards and slashing form part of the security model. Holders also vote on upgrades, monetary policy and ecosystem initiatives. Genesis supply was 2.1 billion ZETA, with controlled inflation described in the token model.
Cross-chain supply
ZETA can be represented on connected external chains as well as its native network. Cross-chain transfers are intended to preserve the aggregate token balance rather than create additional independent supply. In September 2026, the project proposed a native Solana SPL representation. The proposal specified unchanged balances, supply and vesting. Implementation depended on a further proposal setting the snapshot and migration schedule.
