What is Lisk?
Project and network changes
Max Kordek and Oliver Beddows established the Lisk Foundation in 2016. Lisk originally operated a standalone Layer 1 blockchain. The project migrated to an Ethereum Layer 2 in May 2024, ending the original chain. In August 2026, Lisk announced a shift toward money-management software for business finance teams. The Lisk Chain is scheduled to close on October 31, 2026.
LSK supply and governance
LSK exists as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, with Ethereum becoming its primary network. An approved DAO cessation proposal led to the burning of 100 million LSK, reducing total supply from 400 million to 300 million. The project is winding down its DAO and governance infrastructure. Its staking contract now allows penalty-free unlocking, followed by a three-day waiting period before unstaking. Staking rewards are only committed through the announced chain-closure timeline.
Purpose and transition
The new Lisk product combines business accounts, payments and approvals across fiat and stablecoin rails. LSK's planned role is a loyalty token for platform rewards and fees. These product functions are being introduced as the business platform develops. LSK held on the closing Layer 2 requires bridging to Ethereum under the published migration process. The same Ethereum token contract continues after the chain transition.
